Breastdeduction
12/12/2000
The stripper Lia Damén had a breastimplant operation in 1998, hoping her workload would increase. Since her operation was made for commercial purposes she claimed she should be allowed to make a taxdedution for the cost. The IRS in Vejle on the island of Jylland, where Lia lives, rejected her claim, since it was difficult to say where the line between commercial purposes and private use was drawn. To prove it increased her business, she filed a new income statement, as well as a paper showing the amount of jobs, which had increased after her surgery. The IRS was not persuaded. After that Lia appealed in court, where a completly different conclusion was made; investments, improvements and maintenance in business was deductable, and that her breasts partly was to be seen as company proberty. Therefor she was granted a 75 per cent dedution of the cost, while the remaining 25 was considered private.
